HELP US TO HELP!

"When a society collapses before our eyes, it does not take much to bring hope and joy back"

Jessica Kiil, Mama Africa

WHO ARE WE?

Perle Noire is a Norwegian foundation that does relief work in the poor and burdened country of Congo.

The founder, artist Jessica Kiil, comes from the city of Bukavu in Congo. Humanitarian work has always been one of her passions. Since her teens, she was worried about the other teenage street children who had no place to live, or anyone who asked for them.

Perle Noire fights against the prostitution of teenagers and mothers in Bukavu. Over the course of three years, Perle Noire has saved more than 75 teenagers from prostitution through our sewing project.

In 2009, she founded Perle Noire. The black pearls, as her father called the street children in Congo. She started by giving schooling to 10 girls and 10 boys. Today, Perle Noire has 120 children. One of the children is currently attending university.

THE SEWINGPROJECT

Some women in Bukavu are concerned about caring for children with severe difficulties. Several of the Perle Noire children are helped by such women. They do not have finances themselves, and often many children. Despite this, they care for disadvantaged children.

THE SCHOOLPROJECT

Congo is among the countries in the world where parents have to pay for their children to be able to go to school. For those who have funds, this is fine. But, since most people do not even have enough money for food, giving children schooling is almost utopia.
